The Do’s & Don’ts When Dealing With a Breakout

DIY Facial trearment At Home

Breakouts can happen to anyone, regardless of age. Acne breakouts are problematic as they make your skin look uneven. Sometimes, they are hard to deal with, especially without a facial treatment. In fact, there are many factors that contribute to breakouts: cleanliness, the environment, as well as the products that you are using for your skin.

To help you survive and achieve clearer skin despite breaking out, we have come up with a list that can aid you on your way to glowing and healthy looking skin!

DO: Keep your hands from touching your face
Frequently touching your face with your bare hands can worsen the problem. When you are already breaking out, getting it in contact with anything dirty can do further damage. Hands accumulate a lot of dirt, and this is something acne feeds on. The germs and bacteria from your hands further irritate the skin making it more inflamed and sensitive. Prevent yourself from touching your face as much as possible.

DON’T: Wash more than twice a day
Over-washing your face can make it dry and dehydrated. Your skin will also be more prone to breakouts because its natural oils are being stripped off from your skin and the moisture barrier is washed away by your cleansers. Washing your face more than twice daily can irritate the skin further causing it to be more sensitive, itchy and dry.

DO: Moisturise your skin regularly
Moisturisers keep your skin hydrated and prevent it from being dry that can somewhat lead to your moisture barrier breaking. When your skin lacks moisture, it is prone to more cracks and irritation that can eventually lead to breakouts. However, remember to choose moisturisers that are gentle and lightweight enough to avoid your pores from getting blocked.

DON’T: Touch your acne or pop them
Popping your pimples does more damage than actually reducing its size. It can be very tempting to pick on and pop your pimples but do not do that. Popping them without professional help may lead to the scarring of your skin and the opening of pores—making it appear more visible and bigger. If you want to pop your pimples without scarring your face, go for a professional acne facial instead.

DO: Change your pillowcases and sheets regularly
One major culprit in breakouts is when you do not change your pillowcases and sheets regularly. These pillow-cases and sheets harbour bacteria, germs, and other microorganisms that fuel breakouts and make your blemishes more inflamed than usual. So be wary of your pillowcases and sheets—change them regularly and your skin will definitely benefit from it.

DON’T: Over-Exfoliate
While exfoliating is good for getting rid of dead skin cells blocking your pores, remember that you have to avoid doing it excessively in the middle of a breakout. Over-exfoliating does more damage to the skin because it can cause abrasions and irritations making your acne look more inflamed and infected. There is nothing wrong with exfoliating as long as you do it correctly and gently.
