Maintaining Your Skin Condition After Facial Treatments

Dealing With a Breakout

The humidity and sun exposure can have a detrimental effect on your skin, causing it to be dry and flaky. The facial treatment leaves your facial skin looking and feeling rejuvenated. Your aesthetician will remove your damaged and dead skin cells, wash and exfoliate your skin, unlock blocked pores, and apply a moisturiser to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles among other treatments suited to your skin type. Moreover, you’ll also get a facial massage which relaxes your facial muscles and improves blood circulation. In the end, a facial restores your skin’s natural beauty and radiance.

Now, this begs the question: how do you preserve that post-facial radiance? Remember, your skin momentarily becomes pretty much sensitive to touch, sun and chemicals after a deep facial treatment. This is especially true if you’ve had an extraction facial performed. Incidences of post-facial breakout have been on the surge because the skin wasn’t afforded the necessary care owing to its sensitivity.

Here are some of the steps you should adopt to maximise the radiance following facial treatment.

Take a Short Break from Washing Your Face

If you’re among the people that believe that vigorous scrubbing and harsh cleaners are crucial for maintaining glowing skin, it would be prudent to give yourself some break from overzealous scrubbing for the next 48 hours after getting an acne facial. These actions are likely to leave your skin irritated. Your aesthetician has already done the deep cleansing and exfoliation during your facial so it doesn’t make sense to repeat them once again after your facial treatment.

Cleanse with Suitable Products

You can wash your face at least a day after your facial treatment. When washing your face, opt for either foam cleansing agents or non-comedogenic cleanser. Wash your face using your hands with lukewarm water instead of a washcloth or sponge which might contain trapped bacteria and be extremely rough for your post-facial skin. Likewise, avoid the toners for the opening few washes because they could sting your freshly cleaned face. After cleansing, you should keep your post-facial skin moisturised. Choose a non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep your skin smooth and nourished and avoid irritation.

No Touching

According to researchers, a human being touches his or her face 16 times for every hour on average. Therefore, dirt and bacteria find their way onto your face from your hands, leading to new breakouts especially on vulnerable post-facial skin. Avoid touching your face or at least clean them first.

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure

Direct exposure to UV rays speeds up the ageing process. Furthermore, it may lead to skin scarring and even skin cancer. Given that facials involve vigorous scrubbing; your skin becomes sensitive and vulnerable after the treatment, so much so that it is susceptible to being burned by the harmful rays of the sun.

You should apply sunscreen after any facial and always carry an umbrella when you go outside. Furthermore, put on sunglasses whenever socially acceptable. Look for the sunscreen which contains titanium dioxide instead of a chemical to avoid irritation

Steam Treatments

You will need to schedule your spa appointments for another day but not now. Moreover, you should also avoid any steam baths or hot showers for at least 2 hours after the facial treatment. By visiting a steam room, you expose your skin to another round of heat treatment and this may lead to damaged capillaries and sensitive skin. Further, it erodes away the radiance that you wished to achieve.

Avoid Makeup for Now

It is not a good idea putting things on your facing following a facial treatment and makeup is definitely one of those things that shouldn’t apply on your post-facial skin. Your pores have been subjected to heavy cleansing from your facial and are now on the path to recovery, so applying makeup will clog the pores and damage your skin. When you apply makeup, it attracts dirt onto your face. Some of this dirt can penetrate into your innermost skin layer leading to acne breakout and other skin problems. So just leave your face bare for now. After all, the glow of your facial will make you look beautiful.

Stay Hydrated

It is important to stay hydrated post-facial treatment. Your body requires sufficient water intake on a daily basis to flush out toxins and prevent dehydration leading to a clearer, radiant complexion. Adhere to the recommended intake of eight glasses of water a day, and even more if you do exercise a lot or spend most of your time outdoors.

To get the best skin possible following a facial, work with your aesthetician to formulate a post-facial routine that maintains the smoothness and glow of your skin.
