Although an extraction facial might leave your skin looking a little inflamed with red spots, that dewy, supple and bright skin you get a few days later makes it all worth it. This is often dubbed the “post-facial glow” and everybody wishes to have that kind of skin radiance every day.
At the same time, it is only natural for our skin to become duller or for acne to pop up as time goes by due to environmental stressors and certain lifestyle habits.
Luckily, there are a few tried and tested tips that will help you to prolong your post-facial glow for as long as possible – read on to find out more.
1. Stay hydrated
Dehydration is one of the most common culprits of dull and lacklustre skin. Thus, drinking plenty of water to hydrate your skin from within and applying moisturiser diligently every day and night are some of the easiest ways to keep your skin bright and supple from the inside out.
Drinking more water especially after getting an acne facial done helps to keep your skin moisturised to maintain healthy skin cell rejuvenation and collagen production that can aid in acne healing and scarring too.
2. Exfoliate at least once a week
Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and allows new skin cells to surface, giving you an instant glowy boost as if you just stepped out from having a facial.
However, take note not to over-exfoliate as this could damage your skin barrier. A rule of thumb is once or twice a week and you may want to use an acid exfoliant instead of one with beads to prevent microtears in your skin.
You may start exfoliating the following week after getting an extraction facial.
3. Use serums infused with vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that inhibits melanin production in the skin, helping to lighten hyperpigmentation and acne scars. This is one of the reasons why a vitamin C serum is usually included in an acne facial in Singapore.
To prolong that post-facial glow, continue incorporating a vitamin C serum into your nighttime skincare routine to brighten your skin and wake up to a dewy complexion the next day.
4. Avoid picking at the scabs
Your skin is usually extra sensitive after an extraction facial so it is not recommended to touch or pick at the scabs that have formed. Instead, let the scabs fall off on their own to prevent scarring and further irritation.
5. Avoid applying heavy makeup
Taking a break from applying heavy makeup lets your skin rest and heal adequately, especially after an acne facial when your pores are more sensitive and open.
It is fine to resume your usual makeup routine the next day but to prolong the post-facial glow, we recommend just light makeup to avoid clogging your pores. You could also look out for makeup products that are non-comedogenic, which means they are formulated to not cause blocked pores.
6. Stay away from the sun
Lastly, your skin can be more susceptible to sun damage after a facial which is why it is advisable to stay away from the sun. Apply sunscreen with at least SPF30 to protect your skin from harmful UV rays while out and about, and to prevent the sun from aggravating any acne scars that you already have.
