Extraction Facial Aftercare: What To Do To Help Your Skin Heal Faster
An extraction facial is one of the most popular and effective acne treatments, thanks to its deep cleansing properties that remove excess sebum and gunk from clogged pores to unveil brighter and clearer skin.
As much as going for regular extraction facials in Singapore is beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin, it is also natural for you to fret about the downtime needed since extractions can cause redness and scabs to form.
Although they tend to subside within a few days, there are some things you can do to speed up the skin healing process so you can get back to daily activities without worries as soon as possible.
Read on to find out more about extraction facial aftercare!
1. Avoid applying heavy makeup
It is recommended to avoid applying heavy makeup for at least six hours after an extraction facial or better still, for the next few days if doable. This is because piling on makeup products clogs your pores and congests your skin, hindering its healing process.
Only applying light skincare products and makeup (six hours later) following an extraction facial is important to let your skin breathe and reap all the benefits from the facial treatment.
2. Avoid picking at the scabs
We know it can be tempting to want to pick at the scabs that have formed after an extraction facial, but doing so will only cause more harm to your skin. Scratching at your wounds impedes the skin’s natural healing process and prolongs the recovery period.
Hence, to avoid scars from forming and a slow healing process, resist the urge to pick at the scabs. When the scabs have fully dried up in a few days, they will start to loosen and fall off their own.
3. Avoid harsh skincare products
Your skin will be more sensitive after a deep cleansing extraction facial so there is no need to stress it out any further with harsh skincare products. Avoid exfoliants like AHAs and BHAs that may be too strong and do not use scrubs that contain beads as they may cause microtears in your skin.
Instead, go for hydrating skincare products such as aloe vera masks to soothe redness and calm irritation.
4. Stay away from direct sunlight
Avoid going out in the sun at least 48 hours after your extraction facial to prevent exposing your vulnerable skin to harmful UV rays that may slow down the healing process and hasten signs of ageing.
It will also be good to make it a habit to apply a generous amount of sunscreen before heading out. This helps to maintain your post-facial glow for as long as possible.
5. Let your skin heal before going for another extraction facial
A rule of thumb is to let your skin heal and rest for at least a month before going for your next extraction facial appointment. This is how long your skin’s life cycle is and after three or four weeks, your skin cells grow back which means you are ready for another facial.
Giving your skin time to rest is also important to prevent disrupting or damaging your skin barrier.
